Hospital Notary in Knoxville: Powers of Attorney, Wills and Estate Documents

Need a notary for someone in the hospital or a loved one who cannot easily leave home? I provide mobile notary services throughout Knoxville, meeting clients at hospitals, rehab centers, nursing homes, assisted-living communities and private homes.

My name is William, owner of Knox Notary Co. and a Tennessee Notary Public with more than 20 years of experience in notarization and document-signing services. I can come to your confirmed location to notarize eligible documents, including powers of attorney, healthcare forms and documents related to wills and estates.

Call or text (865) 287-5144 to discuss an appointment. Same-day, evening and weekend visits may be available.

Before scheduling: The person signing must have valid, acceptable government-issued photo ID, be awake and aware of what they are signing, communicate directly with me and sign willingly. Please tell me beforehand if ID, medication or confusion may be a concern.

Need a notary for an elderly parent?

If your parent has trouble getting around, I can meet them where they are. You can arrange the appointment for them, even if you live outside Knoxville.

We’ll discuss the documents, ID, any witnesses needed and a good time for the visit. Your parent will still need to speak directly with me and participate in the notarization.

Arranging a hospital appointment for a loved one?

Send me the hospital or facility name, room number, document type and preferred time. Let me know about any deadline or visitor restrictions.

If an attorney prepared the documents, have their signing instructions ready. Confirm with the facility that an outside notary can visit, and choose a time that works around treatment and procedures.

What documents can you help with?

Common documents for these appointments include:

  • Powers of attorney: Documents giving someone permission to handle financial matters or a specific task. These may be called durable, financial, general or limited powers of attorney.

  • Healthcare powers of attorney: Documents naming someone to make healthcare decisions under the document’s terms.

  • Living wills and advance directives: Forms explaining healthcare wishes and, in some cases, naming a healthcare decision-maker.

  • Wills and self-proving affidavits: Will packets may include a sworn statement from witnesses that needs notarization.

  • Trust documents: Living trusts, trust amendments and certifications of trust.

  • Deeds and estate affidavits: Property documents and sworn statements related to an estate.

Not every document needs a notary. Some need witnesses or other steps. Confirm the instructions with your attorney, document preparer or the organization receiving the paperwork. I provide notarization services, but I do not prepare legal documents.

What does “testator” mean on a will?

The testator is simply the person making the will. If your parent (for example) is signing their own will, your parent is the testator.

On a power of attorney, the person giving someone authority is called the principal. The person receiving that authority may be called the agent or attorney-in-fact. That title does not mean they are a lawyer.

Do wills and powers of attorney need witnesses?

It depends on the document. A notary stamp does not replace the witnesses required for a will. A typical typed Tennessee will generally requires two witnesses and specific signing steps. The part needing notarization may be a separate witness statement called a self-proving affidavit. law.justia.com

For powers of attorney and healthcare forms, confirm the requirements for the actual document. Tennessee’s official Advance Directive for Health Care form allows either two eligible adult witnesses or a notary. www.tn.gov

Do not assume family members or hospital staff can serve as witnesses. Let me know about witness needs when scheduling so we can discuss arrangements.

What should you have ready?

Before the appointment, please have:

  1. The complete documents, including all pages and signing instructions.

  2. The signer’s valid, acceptable government-issued photo ID. Tell me beforehand if it is missing or expired.

  3. Any required witnesses, with arrangements confirmed in advance.

  4. The location and room number, plus a contact number and visitor instructions.

If you are unsure whether to sign ahead of time, wait until the appointment and the instructions are confirmed.

If your loved one is too confused, sedated or unable to participate, the visit may need to be postponed. Questions about whether they can legally create a will or power of attorney should go to an attorney.

How much does a hospital notary cost?

Mobile notary appointments start at $75. The total depends on the location, appointment time, number of notarizations and any additional services or waiting time.

I’ll confirm the price before scheduling. Please mention witness needs, printing requests or urgent deadlines when you contact me.
